Sometimes I get ambitious ideas. I drink something with caffeine in it or have insomnia and start watching a Woody Allen movie and then my mind is reeling with potential ideas and I feel like I'm going to explode if I don't do something about it. So I draw or paint, I sing or cook or practice asana. Today we stopped in a book store and I was in hot pursuit of a copy of Yoga Journal. "It's all ads" said my fiancé. I leafed through it hopefully, looking for the little flyer that tells me I'll be getting 97% off the cover price. I realized that he was right. It was pictures of skinny women in tights, ads for teacher trainings and events, ads for clothes... I couldn't find any articles, just blurbs. I had drank some Yerba mate before we left the house, and just finished part two of the woody Allen documentary, so I was bursting with something the pour my energy into. "I'm going to write my own yoga magazine." I muttered to myself.
So here it is, my proposal. Asheville is yoga land USA. I'm sure 10% of our population is yoga teachers, for fun and for career, and I'm sure there's at least 50% who at least has practiced yoga a few times. I'm reaching out to you now because we have different ideas and perspectives on what yoga is and what it means for our community specifically. We are a thriving community with movers and shakers, why read a magazine written by someone in LA or NY when we have so many bright yogic minds right down the road? Write what you think, write what you feel, share it with your community. This invitation is to all yogis and yoginis, but especially to those in the Asheville community.
I can't wait to hear your perspective, and you will surely hear mine as well. See you on the path either way- namaste.
